Talk on the Foundling Hospital, founded in London by Thomas Coram, and its links to Newbury - between 1750 and 1780, hundreds of foundling children were sent to Newbury - some to be fostered for a short while, but some remaining for the rest of their lives. Surviving correspondence attests to this story and a remarkable local hereo, Dr John Collett. The talk will be preceded by a short Branch Meeting.
