Operation Market Garden: A Bridge Too Far

Sue Ellis will talk about Operation Market Garden, which followed hard on the heels of the D-Day invasion of France. This daring attempt to take bridges over the Meuse, Waal and Rhine in the Netherlands, outflanking the German defences on the Siegfried Line, and freeing occupied Holland, failed disastrously. Sue will look at the reasons why the operation was undertaken, its failure and the aftermath.

Members free, non-members £3 (cash on the door). Refreshments are served at the start of the meeting, access from 7.00pm, talks start from 7.30pm. The room is on the first floor of the block, and there is lift access - contact susancarveth@gmx.com to ask about this.
