Local History Hour from the British Association for Local History (BALH). This monthly webinar brings together speakers from across the local history world for an hour every month.
In this webinar, Dr Sarah-Jayne Ainsworth and Dr Imogene Dudley explore sources for researching early modern women's lives.
Whilst some notable examples are known from their autobiographies, biographies or literary works or from the lives of their men, 'ordinary women' are often absent from the narrative. However, looking at everyday documents such as letters, account books and wills can reveal a surprising amount about the lives of women from all ranks and locations. This talk will focus on the lives of two women from opposite ends of the social scale and will demonstrate how looking at seemingly functional documents can illuminate them and bring them to life.
There will be a discussion/Q&A session after the talk.
Free to BALH members, £5 for non-members. Special offer - if you belong to a BALH Member Society, ask them for a discount code, which will entitle you to a reduction to £3 fee.
