Heritage Walk: Central Newbury

A circular walk by Phil Wood, taking in the Market Place, The Wharf, Victoria Park, Newbury Lock, West Mills and St Nicolas Church, during which we cover Newbury's history from the Domesday Book to the present day. Pubs, breweries, almshouses, nonconformity, trade and of course the church and canal feature. 

Phil Wood researches, writes and lectures on the history of Newbury and family history. He is the President of the Newbury District Field Club, and his particular interests are the pubs and breweries of Newbury and the war memorials of West Berkshire.

Each walk lasts about one and a half hours, and has limited spaces. Walks start from the Corn Exchange. Tickets cost £5 and must be booked beforehand at Newbury Corn Exchange (address below) Tel: 0845 5218 218
