Blue Plaque unveiling - Doris Page MBE

Doris Page (aka Ann Armstrong - pen name) was a pioneer campaigner and journalist for disabled people. Herself confined to an iron lung after she caught polio in 1955 as an adult, she nevertheless returned home two years after her hospitalisation and lived at 39 Essex Street with her husband and family, campaigning for disabled people to lead a viable life at home, and writing under the pen name 'Ann Armstrong'. She was awarded the MBE in 1968. A Blue Plaque to Doris Page will be unveiled at 1pm on 5th May at the property where she lived.
