True Newes from Neubury: 17th Century pamphlets and their tales of radical religion

In 1647 a pamphlet of ‘True Newes from Neubery’ was printed in London. This pamphlet describes the antics of the ‘Newbury Anabaptists’, and represents just one of the many sensationalist tales of radical religion published during the English Civil War years. This talk by Claire McGann – an AHRC-funded PhD student at Lancaster University – will uncover the amusing story of the ‘Newbury Anabaptists’, whilst examining the pamphlet’s place within a wider culture of print and religious change.
