Jane Austen and the Military

In Jane Austen’s 41 years of life, Great Britain was at war or under threat of invasion for all but ten of those years. Although Jane’s works lack specific detail of the wars, in this talk military historian Alan Turton looks in detail at the militia and local forces with which Jane would have been familiar. This talk is to mark the bicentenary of Jane Austen’s death (1817).

Tickets £5 available from West Berkshire Museum and online.  All seating is unreserved.
