The talk will include an examination of sundials in Lockinge (which was in Berkshire until 1974), Bucklebury, Stockcross, Reading, Newbury, Avington (near Hungerford) and Crowthorne. Notable local makers include John Blagrave of Reading, David Pawley and John Singleton (both of Newbury) and David Harber of Blewbury.
To that list of sundial inventors and makers can be added the Society’s speaker, Chris Lusby Taylor, who has many years’ experience and expertise in this field. He has been a Trustee of the British Sundial Society and organised its conferences. He calculated the design of what is believed to be the largest vertical dial in London, which, co-incidentally, is a sundial.
Admission to talks is free for members, £2.50 for non-members. For more information see the website: https://newbury-society.org.uk/
